Travelling overseas?
If you're planning for a perfect overseas holiday then we've got the perfect travel companion for you.
Nowadays, it's much easier to access your money overseas, and B&E's VISA Credit and Debit Cards are your perfect travel companions – accepted at more than 24 million outlets worldwide! But it makes sense to plan ahead, and to make sure you understand the best and safest ways to access your money overseas.
To help, we've put together some top travel tips:
-
Let us know before you go
Talk to your local branch or call us on 1300 306 716 with your travel itinerary before you leave and let us know if these plans change. That way when our advanced fraud monitoring system picks up overseas transactions, we'll know that you are safely enjoying your trip and that the transactions are legitimate based on your travel plans. If you don't advise us, you'll run the risk of having your transaction declined and/or card cancelled. -
Ensure you have a PIN for your card
Many countries now have security chip technology and require a PIN instead of a signature to authorise transactions on credit and debit cards. Without a PIN, a merchant may decline your transaction. If you have forgotten, or do not currently have a PIN, contact us at least 7 days prior to departure. -
Check the expiry date of your card
Ensure your card does not expire while you are travelling. If this is the case, contact us at least 2 weeks prior to departure. -
Record your card details and keep receipts
Make sure you keep a secure record of your debit and credit card numbers, but don't record your PIN. In the event your card is lost or stolen this information is critical. Also, keep receipts to validate them against your statement and let us know immediately if you find any discrepancies. -
Use your card securely
To minimise the risk of your card being skimmed when paying for goods or services, try not to let your card out of your sight. Also, prior to performing a transaction, ensure your PIN cannot be observed being entered. We also recommend that you avoid online banking from public internet cafés where security is often low. -
Know what to do if your card is lost or stolen
Make sure you know who to call in the event that your card is lost or stolen. B&E's overseas 24/7 hotline is +61 3 6421 4461. Within Australia, freecall 1800 653 326. -
If you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to go!
It's important to make sure that you cover yourself and your cards before you go – it therefore pays to take out CGU travel insurance, so then you can relax and enjoy your travel. Call 1300 306 716 for an obligation-free quote today.
