Internet Banking Security
B&E Internet Banking uses 128bit SSL encryption to encrypt all communications between your home computer and our servers. This makes our Internet Banking extremely secure, however there are additional steps you can take to protect your account details and personal information when banking online.
Keep your PC secure
Whenever you browse the Internet it's important you take precautions to ensure your computer is protected from viruses and other malicious attacks.
Keep your details secure
B&E will never ask you to disclose your Internet Banking username or password in an email, over the phone, or by any other means. If you ever receive an emailed link to our website, or an email asking for your username or password, do not respond to it or click any of the links in the email.
Always login to Internet Banking via our direct website or from your favourites menu. You should never login to Internet Banking from a third party link on another website or email. If you do come across such links or emails please contact us immediately.
We also recommend that you don't enable your computer to save or 'remember' your password.
Always have up-to-date antivirus software
Viruses, worms and Trojans can very easily spread to your computer from the internet if you are not running up-to-date antivirus software. Consult your local PC reseller for help if you're unsure of a good antivirus software package to use.
Keep your software up-to-date
Always install any CRITICAL patches recommended by your operating system, e.g. Microsoft Windows. Your operating system may do this for you automatically, or you can use Windows Update.
If you are using Windows 98 or an earlier version of Windows, B&E recommends you upgrade before using B&E Internet Banking. Older versions of Windows are a much higher security risk as updates may not be available for new security threats and are not as rapidly deployed.
If you are using an operating system other than Microsoft Windows, ensure you keep it up-to-date with the latest security patches for that system.
Use a modern web browser
Always run the latest version of your preferred web browser, and allow it to apply all necessary security patches. Wherever possible use the latest version of one of the following modern web browsers as these are generally well-supported against security threats.
Consider installing firewall software
Install personal firewall software on your computer to further protect it from Internet threats. A properly configured and up-to-date personal firewall is the best method of protecting your computer from malicious activities such as hacking or viruses, while connected to the Internet. Consult your local PC reseller for help if you're unsure of a good firewall software package to use.
Privacy
Your privacy is very important to us. For more information please see our Privacy Policy.
